Finishing choices should support the packaging concept without making production review unnecessarily complicated. The best option depends on the artwork, tin structure, handling requirements and the visual hierarchy the brand wants to create.
Raised and recessed details
Embossing raises selected areas above the surrounding metal, while debossing creates a recessed effect. Both require clear artwork boundaries and a position that works with the tin-forming process.
- Use bold shapes instead of very fine detail
- Keep the effect clear of tight edges
- Confirm the viewing direction on the physical tin
Surface appearance
Matte and glossy varnishes change how printed colors and reflected light are perceived. Metallic effects can use the tinplate appearance as part of the design, but the intended result should be reviewed with the print and sample preparation guidance.
Build a finish approval list
Before mass production, record the approved color direction, varnish, embossing or debossing position, exposed-metal areas and any special interior requirement. This makes the sample review more focused.
