Square tin packaging specification guide

How to Specify a Square Tin by Footprint, Height and Packout

Square tins provide a balanced footprint and strong display panels, but equal outside sides do not guarantee usable capacity or product fit. Corner form, wall taper, lid engagement, inserts and headspace must be reviewed with the actual contents.

01

Define side length, height and usable corner space separately.

Product cards show outside dimensions. Rounded corners, curls, seams, lid engagement and internal wall shape reduce the usable cavity, especially for rigid products or tightly fitted trays.

Send product or inner-pack dimensions, fill volume, piece layout and required clearance. Junmei can compare current square molds and validate fit using samples or an approved model.

02

Match height ratio to fill, presentation and handling.

Shallow square tins support confectionery, beauty, gift and promotional arrangements. Taller square canisters support tea, coffee, cookies, dry foods and reusable storage when fill volume, moisture-protection target and opening access are defined.

Weight alone is not a safe capacity guide. Bulk density, inner-bag dimensions, layer count and top clearance all affect the required height.

03

Develop lids, inserts and opening sequence together.

Slip or plug engagement, removable or multi-part lids, liners, trays, dividers and precision inserts may be evaluated according to the project. A centered insert can support premium presentation, while finger access and removal sequence must remain practical.

Define repeated-use expectations and any strict sealing target with a test method. Junmei can verify lid fit and project-specific performance without treating all square tins as identical.

04

Coordinate lid graphics with four body panels and corners.

Square tins provide clear front, back and side panels, plus a centered lid canvas. Critical copy, alignment lines and barcodes need safe areas around corners, curls and formed regions. The relationship between lid orientation and the chosen front panel should be approved before production.

CMYK or Pantone printing, varnish, metallic effects, embossing, debossing and windows can be evaluated for the selected mold. Multi-artwork projects need a version and quantity matrix.

05

Check stacking, shelf use and outer-carton efficiency.

Square footprints can stack and use shelf space efficiently, but lid projection, base form, height ratio, decoration and product weight influence stability. Define whether the pack should stack for retail, nest when empty or remain separated to protect printing.

Outer-carton quantity, dividers and protective packing should be reviewed with the finished tin and insert. Drop or vibration work can be planned for the approved configuration.

06

Select current molds or new tooling from the complete requirement.

Junmei first compares suitable existing molds by outside footprint, usable space, corner construction, lid and packout. New tooling is evaluated when the required side length, height, opening, insert or decoration cannot be achieved with a suitable current format.

Samples can validate product fit, lid engagement, print, forming, insert and packing before bulk approval.

07

Send the data needed to recommend a square tin.

MOQ starts from 3,000 pieces. Samples are typically 3–7 working days after specifications and artwork are confirmed. Bulk production is typically about 25 days after required approval and order confirmation; tooling, versions, accessories and packing can change timing.

Send the product and fill, usable-space requirement, side and height target, lid, contact or inner-pack method, insert, front-panel orientation, artwork versions, quantity, target market, packing and delivery plan.
