A useful custom tin quotation needs more than a shape and quantity. Give the factory enough information to evaluate product fit, mold availability, printing, tooling, packing and delivery. You do not need every detail finalized: clearly separate confirmed requirements from open decisions so Junmei can quote the right assumptions and list what must be approved next.
Custom tin RFQ checklist
| RFQ field | What to provide | Why it affects the quotation |
|---|---|---|
| Product and use | Product type, direct or indirect contact, retail/gift/promotional use and a sample or photo | Controls structure, coating, insert and testing discussions |
| Size or capacity | Product dimensions, required internal space, fill volume/weight or reference-pack dimensions | Determines mold match, metal use and carton efficiency |
| Tin structure | Preferred shape, lid type, window, handle, hinge, inner lid, insert or divider | Affects components, assembly, tooling and production steps |
| Quantity | Total quantity, quantity per design and expected repeat frequency | Affects MOQ, print planning, unit cost and packing |
| Artwork and finish | Artwork status, colors, matte/gloss/metallic direction, embossing/debossing and proof standard | Affects prepress, registration, tooling and sampling |
| Target market | Destination country, retailer requirements and any document request | Defines the review scope; requirements differ by use and market |
| Packing and freight | Pieces per carton if specified, protective needs, pallets, destination and preferred shipping mode | Affects export packing and any freight support quotation |
| Timing | Required arrival date, launch date and fixed approval milestones | Allows sampling, production and transport to be planned separately |
Product, filling and contact details
Tell Junmei what will go inside the tin and who will complete the filling. A buyer may use direct contact, an inner bag, greaseproof paper, paper cup, tray, liner or a custom insert. For tea, coffee, cookies, chocolate, candy, spices and other dry foods, the product characteristics and intended contact method guide the discussion about material, interior coating and documents.
If the product dimensions are irregular, send physical samples. For coffee, powder, loose tea or other products sold by weight, a target weight alone may not define the correct tin: fill volume, bulk density, inner-bag size and headspace also matter. Junmei normally supplies empty tins, although filling or final packing support may be evaluated for suitable projects.
Structure, mold and size information
You can request an existing mold or ask Junmei to recommend one. Include:
- preferred external or internal dimensions;
- required capacity or product arrangement;
- shape and lid direction;
- insert, tray, divider, window, handle or other component;
- a reference photograph, competitor pack or physical sample;
- whether a proprietary size or structure is essential.
Junmei reviews existing formats first. If none meets the required function, new tooling can be assessed through the custom tin solutions workflow. Final mold cost and MOQ depend on size, structure, printing and tooling rather than one universal rule.
Quantity, MOQ and multiple artworks
The public starting point for custom production is MOQ from 3,000 pieces. Final MOQ depends on the selected size, structure, printing method, number of artwork versions and tooling. State the total quantity and the quantity for each design; twelve seasonal artworks at a shared total are not the same production plan as one artwork.
If repeat orders are expected, say so. Junmei keeps approved samples and color references for controlled repeat production, and can discuss capacity planning against the customer’s annual purchasing cycle. Repeat-order consistency still depends on using the approved files and reviewing any material, process or regulatory changes.
Artwork, print and finish
Tell the factory whether artwork is final, in development or not started. Useful inputs include editable vector graphics, logo files, color references, legal copy, barcode position, emboss/deboss areas and finish direction. Junmei can provide basic artwork layout and practical design optimization support; this is not unlimited original brand design or the transfer of third-party intellectual-property rights.
Start from the approved tin dieline rather than stretching artwork from another package. The tin box design guide explains the production information that should be locked before sampling.
Documents, inspection and market responsibilities
List the destination market, intended use and any retailer or importer checklist. Do not request “FDA” or “EU compliance” as an undefined label. Food-contact information should be reviewed against the actual tinplate, coating, component, contact method, food type and conditions of use. Junmei can provide available reports and support project-specific testing where required; the buyer, importer or filler remains responsible for confirming the final product and market obligations.
Also identify the sample and inspection criteria that matter: dimensions, lid fit, print color, embossing, coating, insert fit, packing, sealing verification, drop or vibration test. Junmei’s quality and certification information provides the right starting point for a scoped review.
Packing, freight and schedule
State the delivery location and whether you need a freight quotation or shipping support. Carton quantity, protective material, pallets, loading method and transport route can change both cost and risk. These inputs should be discussed before the packing specification is frozen.
For planning, samples are usually completed in 3–7 working days after the necessary specification and artwork are confirmed. Bulk production is typically about 25 days after required sample/artwork approval and order confirmation, subject to quantity, process, tooling and capacity. Shipping time is separate. Payment is normally 50% deposit with the balance before shipment, subject to the final pro forma invoice or contract.
What can remain open at the first inquiry?
It is acceptable if the exact size, lid, finish, insert or shipping method is not decided. Mark each item as “open” and give the product, reference, budget priority and launch target. Junmei’s qualified-inquiry response target is within 24 hours, but a responsible quotation may first return with clarifying questions or alternative mold options.
Ready to request a quote? Use the Junmei RFQ form and attach the available product details, artwork or reference pack. Junmei will distinguish confirmed specifications, quotation assumptions and the decisions required before sampling.
