How to Plan Promotional Tin Packaging Before Artwork Approval

Promotional packaging succeeds when the product, format, artwork versions and campaign schedule are controlled as one project. Use the current catalog to shortlist shapes, then lock the contents, packout, print matrix, approval sequence and delivery windows before production capacity is assigned.

01

Start with the campaign job and the contents.

Define what the tin must do: present a product launch, hold a sample set, support an event, reward loyalty or remain useful after the campaign. List every item, inner pack, card and accessory that goes inside, together with accurate dimensions, weight and the intended opening sequence.

Campaign quantity alone is not enough for a format recommendation. Junmei needs the contents, target audience, distribution route and required delivery destination to separate a practical mailing or retail pack from a presentation-led keepsake.

02

Select the format from packout, handling and distribution.

Product-card dimensions are external. Internal fit is affected by lid engagement, seams, forming, inserts and headspace. The selected tin should be checked against actual products or accurate inner-pack dimensions before artwork approval.

Round tins provide continuous branding. Square and rectangular tins offer defined artwork panels and efficient grouping. Special shapes, windows and handles can make a campaign more distinctive, while requiring closer review of tooling, formed areas, product weight, carton efficiency and handling.

Round tins — Continuous branding for product-led or giveaway formats. Square and rectangular tins — Defined panels and practical multi-item or mailing layouts. Special-shaped tins — High-recognition forms that need early structure and tooling review. Windows and handles — Project-specific features evaluated with the tin, contents and distribution route.

03

Design the insert, card and transport pack as one system.

Junmei can provide or evaluate inserts, trays, dividers, liners, multi-layer arrangements, headspace and custom cards. Each component should hold the contents in the approved presentation while remaining practical to assemble and remove.

The inner arrangement and outer carton should be reviewed together. Drop, vibration or other transport verification can be planned for the approved packout, with the sample, method and acceptance criteria confirmed for the project. This does not create a universal shipping-performance guarantee for every campaign.

04

Lock the artwork and component version matrix.

State how many artwork versions use the same tin structure and whether inserts, cards, labels or packed contents also change. Assign clear version names and quantities so sampling, approvals, print production and final packing refer to the same matrix.

Junmei can evaluate CMYK or Pantone spot-color printing, varnish, metallic effects, embossing and debossing against the chosen structure. Approved samples or color references can support production-color, artwork-version and repeat-order comparison; exact tolerances and retained-reference details remain project-specific.

05

Build the schedule backward from approvals and delivery windows.

Share the required in-market or delivery date, destination and any phased shipment plan. Tooling, artwork approval, samples, quantity, multiple versions, inserts, cards and packing all affect the production sequence. A fixed campaign deadline should not be promised before these inputs are confirmed.

For recurring programs, provide the annual purchasing cycle, forecast waves and likely replenishment pattern. Junmei can coordinate production planning around that cycle, while individual production slots are confirmed against the approved scope and current schedule.

06

Control repeat orders without losing the approved campaign identity.

Record the approved tin structure, artwork files, color references, insert/card versions and packing instructions. When a campaign returns or expands to another market, identify which elements remain unchanged and which require a new review.

This approach supports repeat-order consistency and reduces version mix-ups, but visually identical color across every production condition or automatic reuse of every historical component should not be assumed. Material, artwork, quantity, market and current production conditions are checked for each order.

07

Send an RFQ that can be scheduled and quoted.

MOQ Starts from 3,000 pieces. Final MOQ depends on the format, structure, printing, number of artworks, insert/card requirements, packing and tooling.

Samples Typically ready in 3–7 working days after specifications and artwork are confirmed. Tooling, product-fit checks, attachments, inserts or multiple version samples can change the plan.

Bulk Production Typically about 25 days after required sample or artwork approval and order confirmation. Multi-version packing, phased delivery and shipping time are not included.

For a useful review, send:

  • campaign objective, audience and distribution route
  • every packed item, with samples or accurate dimensions and weights
  • preferred shape, lid, window, handle, insert and custom-card direction
  • artwork/version matrix and quantity by version
  • print, finish, embossing or debossing requirements
  • packing, outer-carton and project-test requirements
  • annual purchasing cycle, launch waves and repeat-order forecast
  • target market, delivery destination and required delivery date.

With these inputs, Junmei can compare relevant formats and identify what still requires fit, tooling, version, packing or schedule confirmation. See the production sequence, or send the Promotional project brief when the campaign scope is ready.
