Round tin packaging specification guide
How to Specify a Round Tin by Diameter, Height and Closure
Round tins can look simple while differing substantially in usable volume, lid engagement and packout. A reliable specification connects outside diameter and height to the actual contents, internal clearance, closure, artwork seam, filling method and distribution requirements.
Separate outside diameter and height from usable internal space.
Product cards use outside dimensions for initial comparison. Rolled edges, body seams, lid engagement, base construction, wall form and inner components reduce usable diameter and depth. A nominal size therefore does not guarantee a fill weight or piece count.
Send the product sample, fill volume, bulk density, piece layout or filled inner-bag dimensions. Junmei can compare current molds and arrange fit or filling trials where required.
Match the round format to the real fill and handling method.
Shallow rounds suit compact confectionery, cosmetics, mints, candles and gift presentations. Taller canisters suit loose or bagged tea, coffee, dry foods and promotional contents when the diameter, fill volume and shelf profile work together.
Junmei normally supplies the empty tin; customers or filling partners usually complete filling, nitrogen flushing, vacuum work or final sealing. Project-specific packing support can also be discussed where the scope is clear.
Choose the lid and additional structures as one system.
Depending on the project, Junmei can evaluate slip lids, plug lids, metal inner lids, double-lid structures, lever closures, silicone seals, scoops and inserts. The right option depends on opening feel, repeated use, filling access, product protection, cost and tooling.
Good lid fit and moisture protection are achievable for many food-related tins, but a strict airtight or sealing requirement must be defined with a test method and acceptance criteria rather than assumed from the word “round.”
Confirm contact materials, liners and moisture-protection targets.
Contents may contact a project-selected tin directly or use an inner bag, liner, paper, tray, cup or other inner packaging. Tinplate, inner coating and supporting reports are confirmed against the actual contents and target market.
For tea, coffee, cookies, confectionery and dry foods, define aroma, grease and moisture concerns. Junmei can conduct or coordinate relevant functional and sealing checks, while shelf life remains dependent on the complete filled product and distribution system.
Plan radial artwork, seams and formed details before approval.
Round bodies create a continuous visual field, but artwork still needs a controlled start point, overlap or seam relationship and readable orientation. Lid graphics, body graphics, embossing, debossing, windows and metallic effects must align with the selected diameter, curl and formed areas.
Provide a version matrix for flavors, seasons or markets. Approved samples or color references and retained samples support consistent repeat-order control.
Validate tooling, fit and transport as a complete project.
Junmei first checks suitable current molds. New tooling or adjustment is evaluated when diameter, height, lid, opening or decoration cannot be achieved with an appropriate existing format. Samples can validate product fit, lid engagement, forming, print, insert and packing.
Drop, vibration, sealing or other functional testing may be used where relevant. The approved tin, inner pack, product model, carton and acceptance criteria define the result.
Send the inputs needed for a useful round-tin recommendation.
MOQ starts from 3,000 pieces. Samples are typically 3–7 working days after specifications and artwork are confirmed. Bulk production is typically about 25 days after required approval and order confirmation; tooling, versions, accessories and packing can change the plan.
Send contents, fill/count, product or inner-pack dimensions, target outside diameter or shelf constraint, preferred height and lid, contact method, print and embossing direction, quantity, versions, target market, test scope and delivery plan.
